Therapy for expats and international students
As someone who has been both an international student and an expat, I understand firsthand how challenging it can be to navigate life in a foreign country. Expatriates often face a multitude of mental health challenges, from culture shock to career-related stress, which can lead to feelings of loneliness and anxiety. I specialise in providing support and guidance to expatriates facing these difficulties. My goal is to help you build new social connections, employ effective coping strategies, and ultimately thrive in your new environment. If you're an expatriate seeking assistance with mental health challenges, don't hesitate to reach out to me for a consultation. I am here to support you on your journey to mental well-being.
Individual Psychotherapy
I am trained in several psychotherapeutic approaches, including Client-Centered Psychotherapy (CCP), Transference-Focused Psychotherapy (TFP), Schema-Focused Therapy (SFT), Mentalization-Based Therapy (MBT), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
While this training informs my clinical understanding, my primary way of working is psychoanalytic. My practice is grounded in psychoanalytic psychotherapy, psychoanalysis, and psychoanalytic group psychotherapy. I am particularly interested in unconscious processes, transference and countertransference, repetition, and the emotional life of relationships as they unfold over time.
In group work, I draw on psychoanalytic and psychodynamic interpersonal group therapy principles, with a strong emphasis on here-and-now relational processes within the group.
EMDR may be incorporated when clinically indicated, particularly in work with individuals who have experienced trauma or who suffer from post-traumatic stress symptoms. In such cases, EMDR is used within a broader psychotherapeutic framework, with attention to timing, meaning, and the individual's overall psychological functioning.
Group Psychotherapy
What is group therapy?Group therapy is like a gym for your emotional well-being. Just as you exercise your body at the gym, in a therapy group, we exercise our emotional muscles to experience and manage emotions in healthier ways. Here, you also practice interacting with others, offering a unique opportunity to observe and understand your own emotional and mental experiences. Through these interactions, we work on correcting distorted self-perceptions and learn to replace unhealthy coping strategies with healthier alternatives. In essence, group therapy helps us meet our emotional needs in a healthier and more constructive manner.
Group psychotherapy is a powerful and transformative approach. By creating a safe and supportive space, it harnesses the collective strength of the group to address a wide range of psychological challenges. In these groups, participants find understanding and a sense of belonging, sharing their experiences, fears, and hopes with others who may be on similar journeys. Through collective exploration and feedback, individuals gain fresh insights into their behaviours and thought patterns, fostering empathy and personal growth. Group therapy offers a unique opportunity for self-discovery, healing, and growth. If you're ready to embark on a life-changing journey towards a brighter and more fulfilling future, consider joining one of our group therapy sessions.
